Caution: cyproheptadine hydrochloride is not recommended in debilitated elderly patients

Side effects: cyproheptadine Heptolif Syrup is a sedating antihistamine drug, the most common side effect is CNS depression with effects varying from slight drowsiness to deep sleep.

Drug interactions: cyproheptadine HCL may enhance the sedative effects of CNS depressants including alcohol, barbiturates, hypnotics, opioid analgesics, anxiolytic sedatives, and antipsychotics, cyproheptadine Heptolif Syrup has an additive antimuscarinic action with other antimuscarinic drugs, such as atropine and some antidepressants
Pregnancy & lactation: This product is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation since cyproheptadine has been found to being fetotoxic in rats and has the potential to be excited in beast milk
Dosage and administration: Age 12 years and above: the usual dose is 4mg (1 tablet ) two or three times a day, adjusted as necessary to the size and response of the patient. The dose is not to exceed 16mg a day
ADULTS: The total daily dose for adults should not exceed 0,5mg/kg/day. The therapeutic range is 4mg to 20mg a day with the majority of patients requiring 12mg to 16mg a day. An occasional patient may require as much as 32mg a day for adequate relief.
It is suggested that dosage be initiated with 4mg (1tablet) three times a day and adjusted according to the size and response of the patient.
